In our business, everything has been an extension of what came before. As an example, when the shop first e opened several years ago it was because of our love of Christmas and Christmas decorating. It was a natural fit to bring over the German Christmas treasures of our youth. We wanted to share the wonderful German handmade treasures with the world.
The Christmas Sleigh in Middleburg, Virginia was an instant success known for quality, handmade German Christmas treasures and over time, we were invited to custom decorate the private homes of several of our customers. We were honored by the invitations and thrilled to do it and it became a flourishing arm of the business. Then, because of our exposure doing that type of decorating, we were invited to consult with different people on interior design issues in their homes, focusing primarily on a "hunt country" type ambiance. Again, we gave it a try.
They say that folks should work at what they love, and antiques and interior design have been a passion of mine for years. I focused this passion on our own home and had a terrific time decorating all the rooms in our home in a way that best represented our taste and our fascination with all things 18th century.
