A Short History on Middleburg and its Horses

Middleburg’s equestrian roots date back to its establishment in 1787 during the American Revolutionary War. It was aptly named so as the midpoint on the historic Ashby Gap trading route. However, the rural area’s dependency on horses soon became a love for the animal and a fondness for sport.

During the early 20th century, the equestrian arts saw much growth – show rings were built, race tracks were carved, and most notably, hunt clubs were formed. The allure of the hunt country was such that it attracted the attention of notable figures such as the Kennedy Family and actress Elizabeth Taylor.

Middleburg is now known as the “Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital” and it does not take the honorable title lightly. The town and its surrounding area are home and host to some of the country’s most prominent equestrian events. As tribute to the region and its history, Middleburg’s Annual Christmas Parade always begins with the running of the horses and hounds down Washington St.

The Christmas Sleigh invites you to relive this magical moment through this whimsical, exclusive puzzle that captures the wintry wonder of our charming town. A snowy day frozen in time, this piece of history and culture is perfect for a cozy Christmas morning.
